In the times that we live in today, it's a necessity that we pray! For instance, the mall shooting that took place the other week. That was such an unfortunate tragedy.... I know we all heard about the elementary school shooting that took place on Friday. They say that was the worst school shooting in history....That's nothing good to put in our history books! Innocent children killed! Innocent public workers killed! Our world is wicked. It's a necessity that we pray!
Jesus is our ultimate example and His committed prayer life should be our model. When He prayed four thing happened: the sick were healed the bound set free the dead regained life those who were lost, believed Jesus also taught others how to pray. He knew the power of prayer and longed to share it with other! Effective Prayer Takes Faith. Have you every prayed a prayer just because you knew it was the right thing to do but you really didn't believe that God would answer? There are Four Types of Pray-ers:
A Situational Pray-er: This person earnestly prays when a situation arises (this use to be me). Not that this is wrong but don't you think it would be so much better if we would adapt prayer as a lifestyle as opposed to praying only when we find ourselves in a situation?
A Committed Pray-er: This is someone who has adopted prayer as their lifestyle. Prayer is their life line. If they don't engage in consistent prayer, they feel empty, they feel lifeless. Psalm 55:16-17 is a great example of David as being a committed pray-er.
The Prayer warrior: The prayer warrior goes through smthng to be blessed and for you to be blessed. A prayer warrior will also have some type of physical evidence of their struggle with God! A warrior has this deep burning or burden to go after God hard every time they pray. This person is a fighter in the spiritual realm! There is a wonderful story of Jacob in Genesis 32:22-32. Jacob was so determined that he was not going to stop fighting (spiritually) until God blessed him.
Intercessory Pray-er: An Intercessor prays on the behalf of others. Their main concern is for others. They want and like to see God bless, heal and deliver others as a result of their prayers. They are not concerned about getting the credit for their time and prayer efforts, they always point the glory back to where it belongs - to God! We can find a mighty man of wisdom -Solomon in 2 Chronicles chapter 6 & 7 . Not only was Solomon a man of wisdom but he was also a great Intercessor for the people of Israel. Now that you've heard my heart, it's time for us to pray...
Father in the name Jesus, we pray that you hear us as we pray on behalf of the nation. God, please heal the land. Your word says that if we, Your people, will humble ourselves pray and seek your face that you will forgive our sins and heal our land. Lord we humbly repent before you of our sin. Please forgive us all of our sins, wash us, purify us, in the name of Your Son, Jesus... We believe that You have heard us, and that change is on it's way. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
